Action Alert: Stuff To Do for Our Big Event on Labor Day

Aloha Reader,

Ready for the Labor Day Event?

Sign Making Event Tonight

If you are thinking of making a sign for Monday's event, here is a great opportunity! Marya Mann is hosting a sign making event tonight (Friday) at Old Airport. Unleash you inner artist and make a new sign for our Labor Day protest! She will have supplies there.

Friday, Aug 29 from 5-7 at Old Airport.
More details can be found in this Facebook post.

No worries if you can't make it. We are looking forward to all the signs you bring on Monday. The creativity of our Kona community is fantastic 🤩🤩

Food Gathering

Don't forget that we always use our sign waving events to gather food for Aloha Latinos. Many of our hard working neighbors are being terrorized by ICE and need our support. Please help if you can and bring the following items on Monday (and please make sure that the foods are not past their expiration dates):

  • Dried or canned beans (pinto, black, lentils)
  • White or brown rice
  • Pasta
  • Pasta sauce
  • La Moderna alphabet soup (popular with keiki), sometimes available at Walmart
  • Peanut butter or nut butters
  • Shelf-stable milk
  • Canned tuna or chicken
  • Canned veggies (corn, peas, green beans, tomatoes, mixed)
  • Canned fruit (peaches, pears, pineapple, mixed fruit)
  • shelf-stable tortillas
  • Cooking oil
  • Instant noodle soup
  • Baby shampoo
  • Menstrual pads

Please note: this time, they do not need canned soup, bread or fresh tortillas.

We are excited to see you tonight and/or Monday (Labor Day, September 1, 2025 from 4-5 PM, Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway - south of Henry Street).

Your enthusiasm and dedication to fighting for our democracy and our civil rights lifts our spirits and assures us that we will prevail!

Aloha,

Aloha Reader, I'm sorry to tell you that we will have to cancel today's protest event. It has been raining very hard at the protest site, and the conditions are not suitable for parking cars or staging our event. I know this is as disappointing for you as it is for us, but we have to err on the side of safety. Please watch for coming opportunities to take part in a variety of protest actions as we expand our events in the near future. Mahalo for all you do to fight for our democracy. - The...
