KIND Weekly: 27 days. Vote early. Make it too big to rig

Aloha Reader,

Four weeks from today is Election Day, and this week we have four ways for you to make those weeks count. Mahalo to everyone who joined us for postcards and potluck at Kahaluʻu on Sunday.

Our message for the rest of October is simple: vote early. That goes for you, your friends, your family, and especially voters in the swing states on the continent. Early votes are the easiest way to keep the election and its results from being undermined.

Sunday's Indivisible Hawaiʻi Statewide Network (IHSN) newsletter took a deep dive on Alaska, and our website covers all six states where Hawaiʻi volunteers can have the biggest impact. In each one, our goal is a turnout too big to rig.

In this issue

  • Register voters this Wednesday
  • Postcarding at Gypsea Gelato Thursday
  • Post-Ironman cleanup Sunday
  • No Dictators: Hands Off My Vote

Register voters this Wednesday

We're thrilled that the League of Women Voters of Hawaiʻi County is doing another voter registration day after it was postponed due to Hurricane Nolo. Share this with any family, friends, or others that may still need to register.

When: Wednesday, October 7, 2026, 9 am-4 pm

  • Hilo: KTA Puainako Shopping Center
  • Kona: KTA Kona and Kona Coast Shopping Center
  • Naʻalehu: Naʻalehu Methodist Church
  • Pahoa: Mālama Market
  • Waimea: KTA Waimea

Postcarding at Gypsea Gelato Thursday

Only a few weeks remain to get postcards out and drive turnout in swing states. A handwritten note from a real person can be the reminder an infrequent voter needs, and in races this close, a few votes per precinct can decide the outcome.

Join us for the final push this month.

WHEN: Thursday, October 8, 2026, 1:30-3:00 pm

WHERE: Gypsea Gelato, 79-7491 Hawaiʻi Belt Rd, Kealakekua, HI 96750

TAKE ACTION: Register here

Post-Ironman cleanup Sunday

You have probably seen triathletes training all over Kona lately. The Ironman World Championship is back in Kona this Saturday, October 10, and we're proud to host it. The race brings wonderful energy to our island, along with thousands of athletes and fans, so our streets and shoreline will need some care afterward.

Join us in giving back to the community with Clean Rewards, which is celebrating nine years of cleaning up the coastline of Hawaiʻi Island. Bring a reusable water bottle, wear closed-toe shoes, and use reef-safe sunscreen.

WHEN: Sunday, October 11, 2026, 9:00 am-12:00 pm

WHERE: Behind the bike kiosk at Huggo's On The Rocks, 75-5824 Kahakai Rd, Kailua-Kona. Look for the blue pop-up tent.

If you’re interested in participating, contact Ellen lnlubrano53@gmail.com, or send her a text at 503-784-6192.

TAKE ACTION: Register for the cleanup

No Dictators: Hands Off My Vote

On Saturday, October 17, people across the country will rally to urge everyone to vote early. Here on Hawaiʻi Island there are four rallies, in Kona, Waikoloa, Waimea, and Naʻalehu. At past No Dictators events, some of our most energetic members made the circuit and drove around the island to participate in several protests. 🤩

Our Kona rally doubles as a food drive for Aloha Latinos, so bring something to donate. Cash donations are gladly accepted too.

We could still use a few more volunteers on the day. If you can help, reply to this email with the best way to reach you.

WHEN: Saturday, October 17, 2026, 4:00-5:00 pm

WHERE: Our usual spot on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway, south of Henry Street, mauka of the Mormon Temple

TAKE ACTION: Sign up and invite your friends.

Mahalo nui to all of you who keep showing up. One month to go until the general election, and then we can all breathe again. Stay optimistic, stay diligent, and if you haven't yet, make your plan to vote early. See you Thursday and Sunday.

Until then,

Warmest Aloha
Sam & the KIND Leadership Team

Aloha Reader, This year, voters in three countries have shown the world that strongman politics can be beaten at the ballot box. In April, Hungarians turned out in record numbers to end Viktor Orbán’s 16 years in power, even after JD Vance flew in to campaign for him. And just this Sunday, Serbia’s student-led movement ousted Aleksandar Vučić after 12 years, while Brazilians chose Lula over Flávio Bolsonaro, Trump’s ally and the son of a former president convicted of plotting a coup. None of...

Aloha Reader, What a weekend 🤩🤩. Hundreds of us filled the highway in Kona on Saturday to say No Dictators: Hands Off My Vote, part of 8,400 people rallying across the islands. Now the ballots are in our mailboxes, and the most important thing any of us can do this week is simple: vote, then make sure everyone we know votes too. Election Day is two weeks out, but in Hawaiʻi and many other states, voting is already underway. Early turnout is running high in swing states like Georgia, North...

Aloha Reader, For more than a year, millions of Americans have joined together around one simple message: this country has no kings. Power doesn’t belong to billionaires, strongmen, or politicians who think the rules don’t apply to them. It rests with the people, as long as we exercise it. Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, from 4:00-5:00 pm, we put that power to work with a peaceful sign-waving protest on Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway, south of Henry Street, behind the Mormon temple. Kona’s rally is...
