Mahalo nui to all who joined our Protect the Vote! rally on Friday. We need to remember the history of the voting rights struggle at a time when the regime is trying to strip them away. Whatever we need to do in 2026 is peanuts compared to the years of sacrifices and the lives given to guarantee the freedom to vote for all Americans as an unalienable right.

We can't miss this opportunity to generate a Blue Wave

As discussed in the latest Indivisible Hawaii State Network (IHSN) newsletter, the federal election shenanigans underway make it ever more important to drive high turnout across the swing states.

This year, we need people across the country to vote as if their lives depend on it - because for all of us, the consequences of this election will be felt in our daily lives. While many of Donald Trump's policies have become increasingly unpopular with broad segments of the public, millions of registered voters still don't show up at the polls. And in swing states, where victory often comes down to razor-thin margins, even a one-percent increase in turnout among Democratic-leaning voters can determine who wins and who loses.

Trump's record has created a rare opening: districts and Senate seats once considered safely Republican are now genuinely competitive. But this opportunity only matters if voters get out and cast their ballots.

You can help make that happen. You may not be able to drop everything and fly to a swing state and knock on doors to motivate voters. But you can still reach swing state voters with postcards. A handwritten postcard is a personal nudge that research shows can increase turnout. You can join one of our postcard-writing events listed below, or simply use a few spare minutes at home to write postcards that encourage voters in swing states to make their voices heard. Every postcard is a small act - but in close elections, small acts add up.

Postcarding at Gypsea Gelato on Thursday at 1:30 pm

Join Franny and other postcarders at Gypsea Gelato on Thursday and help with a great Nevada campaign. Nevada has a lot going on in addition to its important national races. A gain of one seat in each chamber of the state legislature would result in a blue supermajority in both chambers. We're hoping to oust the Republican Governor and there's an important ballot initiative to create a constitutional right to abortion. Nevada is a state with a high rate of growth and new people moving in every year. New voters may not be familiar with the state's mail-in voting procedures, so we're reminding them to get ready and vote!

Postcarding at Old Airport on Sunday 11:30 am

We're not holding a potluck in September because we know people will be busy celebrating the summer's end with friends and family. But we can't skip postcarding because the midterms are right around the corner! We still have some postcards to send to Alaska voters to help support turnout for Mary Peltola's Senate campaign, and we also have postcards for the Senate race in North Carolina and a Congressional seat in Virginia.

ACTION: Let's get together at Old Airport Park on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at 11:30 am. - Register​

We will meet at the picnic tables on the garden side of the parking lot. The picnic tables are at the south end of the walking path, between the path and the skateboard park. Look for the Kona Indivisible sign on the right as you drive into the beach park.

KONA Community Talk Story about Papahānaumokuākea

Papahānaumokuākea Marine Sanctuary has been an extraordinary success story at reviving the ocean ecosystem. It was a fight to get it protected, and now it's being threatened again. In June, Trump signed a proclamation to reopen the area to commercial fishing. When asked about this directive, he showed his ignorance; he thought this applied to Alaska's coastal waters.

The University of Hawaiʻi's Sea Grant Program was instrumental in bringing attention to this world-class resource and getting its legal protection in place. They will host an evening devoted to Papahānaumokuākea Marine Sanctuary, Bringing the Place to the People, at The Salt Farm on Saturday, 5 - 8 pm. For details and registration, see the event page.
