Mahalo nui to all who joined the talk story at the Salt Farm Saturday. Papahānaumokuākea is a great positive story of science, culture and government working together successfully over decades. Did you know six U.S. presidents have protected it? Theodore Roosevelt started it in 1905 - learn more here. Unfortunately the Trump administration continues its attacks on our protected national lands and waters—including Papahānaumokuākea, opening them to resource extraction for private profits. And we're sorry about the postcarding cancellation on Sunday. The County closed Old Airport Beach Park on short notice as a safety precaution - which we understand and we're relieved that Hurricane Lowell passed our Hawaiʻi island without incident. Thanks to everyone who's reached out since then to grab postcards to do from home! Postcarding at Gypsea GelatoThe critical midterms are coming up quickly and increasing turnout is the key to success. This week's event at Gypsea Gelato is focused on providing Black voters in North Carolina with crucial, non-partisan information for the midterm election. This campaign was developed in partnership with the Center for Common Ground, a people of color-led organization that fights voter suppression and empowers underserved communities to connect voters of color with the information they need to vote by mail and to vote early in person. North Carolina is a critical state that could determine whether Democrats flip the U.S. Senate. Roy Cooper — a popular former two-term governor and 16-year attorney general who has never lost a statewide race — has a real shot at becoming the first Democrat elected to the Senate since Kay Hagan in 2008. He’s running for the open seat left by retiring Republican Thom Tillis in a state Trump won by just 3 points in 2024. TAKE ACTION: Come join our postcarding party and help us increase voter turnout in North Carolina.
