Mahalo nui to all of you who showed up for Not My President’s Day! It was a fantastic turnout for a pop-up protest. We can’t take credit, but it’s hard not to feel that this week echoed the sentiment of that protest. WIN: The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Trumpʻs Tariffs are unconstitutional. Although expected, even two Trump-appointed Justices, Gorsuch and Barrett, upheld the rule of law. And then Trump threw a tantrum, demonstrating again that he is unfit for his office. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker responded by sending Trump an invoice on behalf of his constituents for $8,679,261,600. That's what leadership looks like. After all, it was Learning Resources, a family-owned Illinois company, that brought the suit. Rick Woldenberg, the Learning Resources CEO, is a profile in citizen courage and persistence. It's worth going back to hear his interview with Dahlia Lithwick from the time he brought the suit. WIN: Speaking of citizens, the disgraced (former Duke of York) Andrew Albert Christian Edward Mountbatten-Windsor discovered he is not above the law. He was arrested on suspicion of "misconduct in public office" over his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein. He joins Peter Mandelson, Britain’s former ambassador to the US, as the second UK suspect on these charges. While Attorney General Bondi continues the Epstein-Trump cover-up, the King of England said of his brother, “Let me state clearly: the law must take its course.” This makes the score UK 2 : US 0 as a result of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Anand Giridharadas has done excellent journalism, understanding the elite power circle around Epstein and Trump. As he explained recently to Ezra Klein, "There’s that proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” I think we’ve learned that it takes a very powerful network to abuse so many children. We’re getting a glimpse of an absolutely barbaric pedophilia scandal at the heart of Jeffrey Epstein’s life and intimate circles. But also, I would think about his many concentric circles of networks, connections, friends — what Congressman Ro Khanna calls an Epstein class — one could say that made what he did possible. We’re getting a glimpse of how our world — how our country — is run, and it isn’t pretty. " [Full NYT article and podcast here] WIN: Conservative icon Judge J. Michael Luttig is widely credited with having convinced then-VP Mike Pence not to throw out the 2020 election results on January 6. On Thursday, the City Bar of New York awarded Judge Luttig honorary membership. In his acceptance speech, “America’s Time of Testing Has Come”, he quotes George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Thomas Paine, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Judge Luttig, referring to Hamilton, warns all sitting judges, "The danger from within” has arrived and America’s time of testing has come. It is a great signal that leading Conservatives recognize this moment in US history as the greatest test since the Civil War. Democratic Party Biennial District ElectionsHawai'i has been a blue state for several decades, characterized by a dominant system of long-term incumbents with high re-election rates. Our KIND Leader, Tina Marie, currently serves as Assistant Secretary for the Hawai'i County Democratic Committee. The County Committee plays a vital role in organizing Democrats at the local level: supporting candidates, engaging voters, strengthening our community voice, and helping shape the direction of the party from the grassroots up. We encourage you to get involved and consider serving as a member or officer. It’s one of the most direct and meaningful ways to participate in the political process, bring fresh ideas forward, and help build the future you want to see. If you’re ready for new energy and new leadership, this is your opportunity to make a real impact right here at the ground level. Feel free to email Tina Marie with any further questions: TinaMarieEven@gmail.com. The Democratic Party of Hawai'i will be holding its Biennial District Elections across the four counties of Hawai'i. At these meetings, the Party will have three (3) sets of elections:

Aloha Reader, What a storm! Its unusual size and intensity have affected all the Hawaiian Islands. We hope you and your loved ones are safe as we weather this together. #ClimateChangeIsReal On the surface, this week’s news looks weird. The massive, chaotic, illegal, unpopular, unsuccessful, inflationary, lethal war on Iran continues with no objective, strategy, or rationale. What does Iran do in response? Close the Strait of Hormuz to strangle the world oil market. What does the...
Aloha Reader, Thanks to all who showed up for the Biennial Democratic Party Elections on Wednesday. It was great to see that Indivisibles made up a third of the room. And thank you, Tina Marie, for leading the quest to make the Party, at least in Hawai'i County, worth joining. “No More Forever Wars?” Really? This week, Trump, Hegseth, and Rubio more or less proved that Netanyahu suckered them into attacking Iran with absolutely no plan. No plan for personnel evacuations, no plan for Iran's...
Aloha Reader, Imagine an enormous stone, rigid and unmoving, yet packed deep inside with the untapped force of real Democracy. Now picture someone standing before it with a hammer, chipping away, bit by bit, trying to break it open and unleash the change sealed within. Hi! I’m Tina Marie, one of the leaders at KIND. I’m also one of the few people standing at the stone of Democracy, hammer in hand, chipping away to crack it open and bring forward stronger, more progressive leadership. I’d like...
