Let's dive into what we're doing. Next protest: Let's Get Out ThereGet ready to rumble! Let's show our elected officials that we want them to prioritize Workers over Billionaires! Join us for the next protest on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, from 4 to 5 p.m. at our normal sign-waving location. Take in all the positive energy we will spread. Register here. This is a long, hard fight just like the civil rights fight in the 1960s. We must continue to show up and be heard. Thanks to all who participated in our Make Good Trouble protest last month. The event in Honolulu included several speakers and was recorded, so it's worth watching. The videos are available here. ICE Response TeamsICE is coming to town! We are not kidding. We learned that ICE will be in Kona from August 14 to 18, 2025. They will stay at the King Kamehameha Hotel, and we will let them know they are not welcome! If you're interested in participating in an ICE response team, please reply to this email, and we will forward your name to the team coordinators. Partner Event regarding ICE raidsThe League of Women Voters is meeting at the West Hawaii Civic Center on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 10 a.m. to discuss the impacts of ICE raids on our community. Join them! Important MeetingsHawaii County Police CommissionHawaii Police Commission is currently looking for a new Hawaii County Police Chief. KIND and other local groups have asked them to address with candidates how they would respond to Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) requests for assistance on raids. We're also investigating the County’s current Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with federal agencies to clarify the agreed-upon relationships. We believe the next Hawaii Police Commission meeting will be on August 22, 2025. When this is confirmed, we will send out an alert. Hawaii State SenateThe Hawai‘i State Senate Judiciary Committee will hold an informational briefing with our State Attorney General about critical litigation wherein Hawaiʻi is the lead plaintiff or part of a coalition in lawsuits filed against the President and his administration. These complicated legal actions are crucial to protecting Hawaii and American democracy. They are also courageous when retribution has become routine. When: Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 10 am Attend in-person at the Hawai'i State Capitol Conference Room 016, or via the State Senate YouTube Channel. Write PostcardsState elections in swing states are critical to protecting democracy. State governments are essential in protecting free and fair elections and can help counter federal government overreach. Just look at the Texas Democrats breaking quorum! Help get voters out in swing states and encourage them to support candidates who will defend our freedoms and rights. Postcards make a difference! If you’re interested in attending the next live local postcard event, we will be at Gypsea Gelato in Kealakekua on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1 p.m. You can register for this event here. If you want more information on how to host a postcarding event, you can attend a webinar here. Take a BreakThanks to all who came out to socialize on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Kahalu’u Beach. It's rewarding and energizing to spend time with others working to protect our democracy. Our next social event is on the first Sunday of September (7th) from 4-7 pm. It’s a potluck, so please bring some food to share and your own beverages to enjoy. You can register here.
