From Kona to All the Islands — Big News Inside

Aloha Reader,

A little over a year ago, Kona Indivisible launched a website and newsletter with a simple goal: keep our community informed and ready to act. What we didn't expect was everyone else saying, "We want that, too!" — and by everyone, we mean chapter leaders and the statewide network leadership across all four islands.

So we got to work. KIND set out to build something bigger: a communications overhaul that gives every Indivisible chapter in Hawai'i a home, a voice, and a shared purpose. About four weeks ago, the new Indivisible Hawai'i Statewide Network (IHSN) website 3.0 went live — and this morning, its very first newsletter landed in inboxes. 🎉 We hope it made it to yours — if it didn't, please reply and we'll make it right.

Along the way, we also tackled something that brought us a lot of joy: a full branding unification across all chapters and IHSN, built around a shared color palette rooted in the National Indivisible style guide. The most delightful part? Every chapter now has its own unique graphic identity — while IHSN continues to carry the lei. Take a moment to browse the new chapter pages 🌺.

Going forward, the plan is for the IHSN newsletter to cover national and state news, while the Kona Indivisible newsletter stays close to home — Hawai'i County and local happenings.

And we're not stopping there. We plan to help every chapter across the state build the same capacity, with one ultimate goal: a single, trusted source of information for Hawai'i citizens — one that educates, engages, and empowers people to show up, shape policy, and keep a watchful eye on the public servants and politicians who work for us.

Democracy works best when people know how it's supposed to work. That's what we're building. 🤙

County News

WIN: On Wednesday, the County Council voted 5–3 in favor of Bill 66, adopting the Hawai'i County General Plan 2045 — the document that will guide land use on Hawai'i Island for the next two decades. Mahalo to all who testified.

Local Happenings

Meet Lt. Governor Candidate Della Au Belatti Today at Kahaluʻu Beach Park

Today we gather at Kahaluʻu Beach Park Pavilion — postcarding at 3:00 pm and our social potluck at 4:00 pm. State Representative and Lieutenant Governor candidate Della Au Belatti will join us at 4:00 pm. We're honored that she's making Kona her first neighbor island campaign stop.

Take Action: Register here so we know how many folks to expect.

Hawai'i Elections Commission — New Chair Vote

Also joining us at today's potluck is Judge David Wiseman, who is running to chair the State Elections Commission. Many of you know David through his leadership in KIND. We're delighted he's stepping up to bring steady leadership to that body. Read his application packet.

Your testimony makes a real difference. Showing up - even virtually - tells the Commission that Hawai'i citizens are paying attention and that we expect our elections to be run with integrity. Please make Wednesday morning a priority and be there.

Take Action: Testify on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 10:00 am. Details at elections.hawaii.gov.

Postcarding

Do our postcards actually get out the vote? Research says YES. Controlled studies from Sister District, Postcards to Swing States, Activate America, and the Center for Common Ground show a 1.2–5% increase in voter turnout — comparable to canvassing, which shows a 3% increase.

Your work makes a real difference. Consider:

  • In 2022, the Arizona Attorney General's race was decided by 280 votes.
  • In 2024, the North Carolina Supreme Court race was decided by 734 votes.
  • In 2024, control of six state legislative chambers was decided by fewer than 4,000 votes combined.
  • In 2024, Democrats lost the U.S. House by only 7,310 votes across three districts.
  • In Hawai'i's Congressional District 1, only 23% of registered voters returned ballots in the 2024 Democratic Primary.

Every vote counts. Thank you for all that you do.

Upcoming Postcarding Events

  • Today (Sunday): 3:00 pm at Kahaluʻu Beach Park Pavilion
  • Thursday, June 11, 2026: 1:30-3:00 pm at Kealakekua Gypsea Gelato — sign up here

As always, we provide postcards, voter lists, scripts, and instructions. You bring the stamps, your writing muscle, and your favorite pens. We always appreciate donations of postcard stamps or money toward postage so that all writers are welcome, regardless of financial capacity. And please consider supporting Gypsea Gelato by buying something while you're there.

Postcard at Home

Can't make it to an event? No worries. Pick up a postcard packet at one of our postcard hubs and write from home. More info here.

Stock Up on Postcard Stamps Before July 12

The price increases to $0.65 on July 12 — but postcard stamps hold their value like Forever Stamps, so stock up now. Local post offices often run out, so the easiest option is USPS.com. Note: there are no bulk discounts on stamps — any site claiming otherwise is likely selling counterfeit stamps.

Rise Up and Sing Out — With Not-Yet-Indivisibles

By now you've seen the announcements for the Rise Up and Sing Out Concert on June 14, 2026. While Trump's birthday wrestling match turns the White House into a Las Vegas casino, we're turning up the volume on democracy. 🎶

Use this as an opportunity to welcome friends and neighbors into our movement. Host or attend a watch party, have your phone handy, and pull up the Indivisible Hawai'i website — show them around and have them sign up right then and there. Make it a party!

After the concert, carry those good vibes into the streets with a pop-up rally from 4:00-5:00 pm at Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway and Henry St. Come make some noise. 📣

Take Action: Watch at home, or better yet, register your own watch party and invite someone new. RSVP for the pop-up rally by emailing lnlubrano53@gmail.com or texting 503-784-6192 — it helps us communicate any last-minute changes.

We hope to see you today at Kahaluʻu Beach Park — whether you're joining us for postcarding at 3:00 pm, the potluck at 4:00 pm, or both! It's not every Sunday that a Lieutenant Governor candidate comes to Kona to talk story with us. Come meet Della. 🌺

Warmest Aloha,
Sam & the KIND Leadership Team
