You’re Making a Difference and Getting Noticed!

Aloha Reader,

It’s been another good week for the State of Hawai'i, thanks to Indivisibles like you 😊🎉.

State News

On Tuesday, we rallied statewide to urge Governor Green to sign SB2471 into law.

WIN: Thursday, less than two days after our rallies, The Atlantic ran a major article on Hawai’i’s proposed law. The same day, Governor Green signed the bill into law and the Associated Press covered it. The next day Hawaii Public Radio reported on it.

We expect big money interests to sue the state over this, and states across the nation will be watching (and hopefully helping us defend it). Wouldn’t it be wonderful if this spread across the country, and if Hawai’i led the way in effectively overturning Citizens United?

Indivisible Hawai'i is Getting Noticed, too!

WIN: The Indivisible Hawai’i State Network (IHSN), which includes KIND and all other Indivisible chapters across the state, has become an amazingly effective public-interest lobbyist. The press is taking notice. On Saturday, Civil Beat featured our work on Migrant Rights.

TAKE ACTION: Reach out to your local friends and neighbors, share these stories, and ask them to join Indivisible. Tell your friends and family in the other 49 states to join Indivisible National and their local chapter. We are building a national pro-democracy network, and we are winning.

Local Events

Postcarding in Full Swing

So far this year, we’ve written to 10,153 voters in MI, WI, AZ, NC, GA, OH, NJ, AK, and CA.

Now we’re writing for our home state! We are supporting Jarrett Keohokālole, for Hawai'i Congressional District 1. Jarrett will work for you and me, unlike Ed Case, who works for his big money donors. We have a lot of folks to write to, but the script is short. 😉

Future Events

  • Every Thursday from now until Election Day (November 3) from 1:30 to 3 pm at Gypsea Gelato in Kealakekua. Register.
  • Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 3 to 5 pm at Kahalu’u Beach Park Pavilion. Register.

We provide you with free postcards, voter lists, scripts, and instructions. You provide the stamps, your writing muscles, and favorite pens. We always appreciate your generous donation of postcard stamps or money toward postage, so that all postcard writers are welcome (including those with limited financial capacity). This way, we can all find ways to help get out the vote.

Postcard At Home

Can’t make an event? We’ve got you covered. Pick up a postcard packet at one of our postcard hubs and write at home. More info here.

Already got your own postcards and need addresses? You can get them emailed to you here (choose "Names only"), or you can get addresses directly from postcarding organizations. State legislatures and local elections, including city council and school board races, are happening now! Sign up directly with Postcards To Voters and Postcards For Democracy. It’s easy and fun. You can find more info on Geri’s List.

Pop-Up Rallies

Our Pop-Up rallies are like the heartbeat of our participatory democracy! Small or large, they draw attention to important issues when traditional channels feel ineffective. Local people holding rally signs draw attention to issues that folks driving by should be thinking and talking about. What will we rally about? Whatever issue you feel passionate about, like the rising costs of Trump's Iran War, the immense corruption, the need to tax the rich, prioritizing healthcare over war, getting ICE out of our neighborhoods, enough with the gold statues, and the list goes on.

Join us this Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4 to 5 pm

  • We'll meet in the Kona Safeway parking lot near Baskin-Robbins, and walk up to Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway and Henry St.
  • Please arrive by 3:45 pm.
  • Kona Indivisible will provide several large signs, or you can bring your own!
  • You might want to bring a hat and water as it could be hot and sunny.
  • If you’re interested in participating, please RSVP. Send an email to lnlubrano53@gmail.com, or text Ellen at 503-784-6192.
Huge favor: It's important to know who is coming so Ellen can communicate any last-minute changes to everyone.

Hope to see you at Gypsea Gelato on Thursday this week for postcarding or at the pop-up rally on Friday the 22nd!

Warmest Aloha,
Sam & the Leadership Team

Aloha Reader, It's primary election season. Ballots arrive July 21st, and the elections office needs to receive them by August 8th. Sunday's statewide newsletter covered how to prepare for disinformation and dirty tricks. Today, we share something more hopeful: the candidates are coming to us - and we're thrilled to have a stretch of back-to-back events to prove it. Here's everything on the calendar this week and beyond. First, a quick reminder - this is the newsletter for our Kona Chapter....

Aloha Reader, Mahalo nui to all who showed up for the Rise-Up Rally to Guarantee Our Freedoms on Sunday! A great way to cap the Rise Up and Sing Out concert - and impressive turnout for a pop-up on short notice. These 100-person rallies have a great vibe - a perfect size to meet and talk with new friends. Guarantee Our Freedoms Pop-Up 😊 Two Newsletters. Everything You Need to Know. KIND was a pioneer among Indivisible chapters in Hawai'i - one of the first to build a local website and launch...

Aloha Reader, A little over a year ago, Kona Indivisible launched a website and newsletter with a simple goal: keep our community informed and ready to act. What we didn't expect was everyone else saying, "We want that, too!" — and by everyone, we mean chapter leaders and the statewide network leadership across all four islands. So we got to work. KIND set out to build something bigger: a communications overhaul that gives every Indivisible chapter in Hawai'i a home, a voice, and a shared...
