A lot is going on this month! PostcardingPostcards make a difference in close elections, and it seems like all elections are close these days! Our postcard troop is amazing, and we’ve sent over 10,000 postcards this year! California Proposition 50, also known as the Election Rigging Response Act, is coming up quickly to offset the Texas redistricting map. Unfortunately, voter turnout may be low, and this could have disastrous results. But we can help! We are currently writing postcards to CA voters reminding them to “Stop Trump’s Power Grab” and to “Vote Yes on Prop 50.” Join our next local postcard party on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 1:30 PM at Gypsea Gelato. More information is here. You can also order postcards to write independently: click here for local pick-up locations at Lako Street or Upper Palisades. Other postcard initiatives are underway, so look out for a special newsletter on postcarding soon. Hawaii County Police CommissionThe next Police Commission meeting is on Friday, September 19, 2025, at 9 AM at the West Hawaii Civic Center, Council Chambers (Building A). The Commission will continue discussing the selection process for Hawaii County’s next Police Chief. We have been submitting testimony asking the Commission to ensure that our next Police Chief does not cooperate with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids but protects all Hawaii County residents. Please let us know if you want to attend the meeting and/or submit testimony (just hit reply). We can provide you with our previous testimony, which you can use to draft your comments. One Million Rising with Della Au BelattiWe have a special event on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, with State Representative Della Au Belatti. She is hosting a One Million Rising meeting at the West Hawaii Civic Center. We Say No DictatorsLastly, our No Dictators (aka No Kings) protest will be on October 18, 2025, and is currently planned for our normal location. However, you may have noticed that several "No Parking" signs have been installed in the area. We requested additional information from our Interim Police Chief, County Council members, and State representatives on the reasons for the signs and any potential impact on our events. We will provide more details when we have them. Keep your spirits up! Thanks for fighting with us. As always, visit our website at www.konaindivisible.org for a ton of information on our ongoing fight for democracy. Mahalo! MET (aka Maryellen) |
