Stand Up, Speak Out, and Have Fun! 🐸🐸🐸

Aloha Reader,

💥💥 We Say No Dictators! 💥💥 Tomorrow, Saturday, October 18th, 2025, from 4 to 5 PM on Queen Ka'ahumanu Highway, south of Henry Street, behind the Mormon temple, we will host a peaceful, sign-waving protest, which is one of the 2,600 events nationally and likely the largest in US history. This event celebrates our democracy, opposition to dictators, and constitutional rights to assemble and speak freely.

We expect a huge turnout, and the KIND team is well prepared and happy to share the details of what to expect:

Parking

  • Parking is limited, so carpool if possible.
  • Park at one of the nearby shopping areas with large parking lots and walk to the event.
  • Limited parking is available in the grass between the highway and the Mormon temple for disabled people, so we recommend coming early!
  • This grassy parking area is only accessible from the road's southbound lane. If you’re northbound, you must turn around at Malulani Drive towards Lowe’s.
  • DO NOT attempt to turn left from the northbound lane. Handicapped vehicles will be directed to the grassy areas closest to the road.
  • There will be two entrances into the parking area. If you drive a sedan or sports car, use the first parking entrance; all SUVs and trucks must use the second entrance.
  • Look for parking attendants in orange vests.

HPD is on our side

If you’re concerned about the No Parking signs installed near our gathering spot, we’ve coordinated with the Hawai'i Police Department (HPD). They know we will be there and have no objections to our plans.

HPD expressed only two concerns:

  1. DO not park cars on the shoulder.
  2. Protesters must stay clear of the white line marking the edge of the highway lane.

We know how excited everyone gets with all the energy from folks honking their support, but we cannot step out into the traffic lane. Please share this safety concern with others and avoid the white line.

It is for our safety, and we want to show our police department and elected officials that we are not creating any safety hazards. Let's not give our opponents anything they can complain about (because they have done so about us stepping into the traffic lane).

Check out our Initiatives!

We will have two Kona Indivisible information tables, and the League of Women Voters will have a table for voter registration. Please stop by to learn about our current initiatives.

#SpecialSessionNow

An urgent KIND campaign to protect Hawai’i from the cruel overreach by the Federal government. Sign the petition asking Governor Green, State Senator Kanuha, and State Representatives Kahaloa and Lowen to call a Special Legislative Session in November. We ask them to enact laws for No Secret Police, No Secret Committees, No Cutting Healthcare, and No Stripping Food Aid.

We’re happy to report that the League of Women Voters, the State Democratic Party, and others have joined the call since we started asking for this session.

#WePourAlohaOverICE

A KIND campaign to educate individuals and businesses in Hawai’i about their rights: see us if you are a business owner or worried about ICE's blatant overreach.

We have a great initiative addressing those concerns, so help us reach out to Kona businesses to make their establishments welcoming, safe spaces for all residents, with informed staff who can recognize and refuse unlawful conduct by federal agencies.

#KnowYourRights

We’ll have Know Your Rights (KYR) “red cards” available that you can share with your neighbors. We also have resources to provide KYR training to businesses, employees, and anyone interested in being more informed.

Postcarding

We will have postcard packets available if you want to help us register voters in swing states as we continue to turn those purple states blue.

Newsletter Mailing List

Thank you for already being on our list! However, if someone forwarded this email to you or has friends who didn’t receive it, bring them to our table, and we’ll get you/them signed up.

Signal Chat

We also have a Kona Indivisible (KIND) chat group. Join our Signal chat to converse with other members, share information, and hear about things quickly when they happen. If you have questions, stop by the Kona Indivisible tables.

Final Thoughts

None of us thought we would have to fight fascism during our lifetime, but here we are.

Let's make the best of it and have fun! Bring your protest sign, wear an Indivisible shirt (order one here) or yellow, which the National Movement recommends, or an inflatable costume to emulate our patriotic heroes in Portland!

Please review the peaceful protest protocols and stay positive. Don’t react to those vehicles that yell insults or make rude gestures – that is what they want. Just smile 😊 and wave 👋🏻. They’ll be more frustrated if they can’t get a rise out of you and you keep having fun in the face of their rudeness.

Feel free to follow the example of the frogs of “war-torn” Portland, deploying laughter to counter tyranny.

We look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow as we celebrate our independence from dictators and enjoy our constitutional right to free speech.

Sending out good vibes and Aloha!
