We are ready for the No Dictators Event 10/18 - Join Us

Aloha Reader,

This week's focus will be on the upcoming Nationwide protest on Saturday, October 18th, 2025, but we also want to share other efforts that are clearly making a difference. Let's dive into this.

No Dictators Protest on October 18, 2025

Momentum is building for the No Dictators protest on Saturday, October 18, 2025. If you ever doubted that these protests across the country have any impact, I think we now have proof that they do. The fact that Mike Johnson had to slander Indivisible and the protest as anti-American tells you that they can’t ignore the millions of people peacefully protesting.

Celebrities like Robert De Niro are advertising the event, and pastors are on the front line. We have to continue to show up and speak out! It's in our hands to make this our largest event ever. Invite your friends who haven’t attended an event to join this one. Explain that the stakes are extremely high. Let’s show the world that this corrupt administration and mafia Don do NOT represent us. Sign up here.

Urgent message to our State Elected Officials: #SpecialSessionNow

We’re also breaking through at the State and County levels. Recently, co-lead Sam contacted our State Senator, Dru Kanuha, asking him to hold a special session in November, pass a No Secret Police Act, and address other urgent issues. If California can create laws to protect citizens, the Hawaii legislature must do the same. This is the time for real leadership.

So, when he answered that he had not heard from enough of his constituents, we thought to do just that, aka "flood the zone" 🙃😊. Imagine we all pick up the phone or write an email to our Governor, State Senators, and Representatives requesting a #SpecialSessionNow.

For that purpose, check out the #SpecialSessionNow campaign webpage, which has more information you can use as a script for an email or call. Let's also tie this urgent demand to our October 18, 2025, protest. Consider making a protest sign with that message.

We made it easy for you to find your state representatives here.

County Advocacy is working!

  1. On the Hawaiʻi County level, we are setting the example for other counties on addressing Trump’s assault on democracy. We’ve attended Police Commission meetings and established a relationship with the Interim Police Chief/Deputy Chief Reed Mahuna. We’ve confirmed that the Hawaii Police Department (HPD) is not cooperating with ICE and ensured they know we’re monitoring the search for a new HPD Chief.
  2. We have also been writing to the County Council for months, asking for a resolution to call on HPD to protect civil rights. We were all delighted when County Councilwoman Michelle Galimba went even further in Resolution (320-25). It calls on all county officials to uphold the constitutional rights of all residents and recognizes the county’s multicultural heritage and immigrant history. We think this is a model for all the counties and the State!
The resolution passed the committee unanimously and will be voted on by the entire County Council on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The agenda for that meeting hasn’t been published yet, but you can still contact your County Council representative and encourage them to support it. Contact information for County Council members for Kona is listed on our website.

Want to get more involved?

The KIND Leadership team is looking for volunteers who are willing to dedicate more time to KIND actions on a regular basis.

  • Social media, videography, business outreach, public advocacy, weekly pop-up protests, and more: If you’re interested or want more information, don't hesitate to contact info@konaindivisible.org using "GET INVOLVED" in the subject line. We can also discuss it in person during our October 18, 2025, protest. Please come and visit our information pavilions.
  • Letters to the editor: We are gearing up to submit opinion letters to local news sites on various issues and seek volunteers. We will make it simple: we draft the content, you edit it as you see fit, and submit letters online via the links we provide. Think "copy/paste." 😉
  • Postcarding: We are thrilled by how robust our postcarding team has become. They regularly meet (in person, virtual, or DIY), and we welcome everyone willing to write postcards to swing states to turn them blue. Look for postcard events or request postcard packets (we supply the postcards, scripts, names, and addresses—you supply the stamps) to be picked up in the Palisades neighborhood (north) or the Iolani neighborhood (south)—order postcards with the Postcard Packet Order Form.

Thanks again for all of your efforts. Our numbers are our strength. We will only succeed if we all continue to show up and speak out. Later this week, I’ll send additional information on the October 18, 2025, event.

Aloha,
MET (Maryellen),
